Reddit has taken significant steps to enhance its search functionality in response to user feedback over the past few years. The platform’s recent investments, which include the integration of artificial intelligence, are yielding positive results. CEO Steve Huffman announced a remarkable 30% year-on-year increase in weekly search usage, highlighting its role as a critical element for both user acquisition and retention.
During a conference call discussing the company’s first-quarter outcomes, Huffman reported substantial growth in daily and weekly active users engaging with the search feature. He commended the search team for their efforts, stating that improvements such as Reddit Answers have enhanced the overall user experience.
Additionally, earlier in February, Reddit began experimenting with product placements within AI-generated search results in the United States. Huffman pointed out that 40% of discussions on the platform are commercially related and noted that 84% of consumers feel more secure in their purchasing decisions after researching products on Reddit.
By the end of the quarter, Reddit boasted over 493 million weekly active unique users, representing a 23% increase from the previous year. The number of daily active unique users also rose to about 126 million, marking a 17% rise. The platform saw a 7% rise in U.S. visitors, reaching 53.5 million, while international users climbed to 73.3 million, a significant 26% increase. The company has set ambitious goals to achieve one billion daily users worldwide and 100 million in the U.S. alone.
In addition to search functionality, Reddit’s machine translation feature, which now supports over 30 languages, has also contributed to user growth in recent quarters. The platform’s financial performance is strong, reporting revenue of $663 million for the first quarter of 2026, exceeding Wall Street’s expectations of $609.8 million, while maintaining modest capital expenditures of just $1 million for the quarter.
