Meta may not be at the forefront of discussions regarding leading AI technologies, yet its business AI tools are experiencing substantial growth, driven by a heightened interest in AI. As reported during their recent first-quarter earnings call, the company’s AI tools are enabling approximately 10 million conversations weekly, a sizeable leap from just one million at the start of the year.
The surge is aligned with Meta’s expanded beta programme for its business AI assistant across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. Currently, these tools are provided free of charge to small businesses; however, CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated that a monetisation model might be on the horizon as the tools continue to develop.
Zuckerberg mentioned, “Business AIs today are currently free for most businesses on our messaging apps, but as we make more progress, we expect to establish a longer-term monetisation model.” Meanwhile, Meta is enhancing its business products with AI capabilities, powered by its new large language model, Muse Spark, introduced through the Meta Superintelligence Labs.
The popularity of Meta’s creative AI tools has soared, with over 8 million advertisers leveraging at least one of its Generative AI (GenAI) ad creative solutions. Notably, advertisers utilising the video generation feature reported over a 3% increase in conversion rates during testing, according to CFO Susan Li.
In a further move, Meta is set to launch the open beta of its Ads AI Connectors, allowing advertisers to link their Meta ad accounts with an AI agent. Collectively, Meta’s suite of applications generated $885 million in revenue this quarter, spurred largely by demand for paid messaging on WhatsApp and app subscriptions. Notably, the company is also testing a WhatsApp Plus subscription that offers users access to customisation options such as icons, themes, and notification sounds.
Financially, Meta has reported a profit of $26.8 billion for the first quarter, a significant increase from $16.6 billion a year earlier. Revenue has grown to $56.3 billion, representing a 33% rise compared to the previous year. Meta’s strategic focus on AI and its related applications appears to be paying off, paving the way for future growth while adapting to market demands.
