Investor enthusiasm surrounding Anthropic, the creator of the Claude AI assistant, has surged significantly. The company is reportedly evaluating interest from investors who have made preemptive offers to raise around $50 billion, positioning its valuation between $850 billion and $900 billion. Previous reports indicated a valuation of $800 billion, but Anthropic had not yet decided on a new fundraising round.
Despite the allure of fresh capital, Anthropic appears to be grappling with the pressure to secure additional funding in what may be its final private fundraising effort ahead of a potential initial public offering (IPO). The company plans to reach a definitive decision about this funding round and its valuation in a board meeting scheduled for May.
Sources indicate that while the planned fundraising is estimated at $40 billion to $50 billion, demand from investors far exceeds this amount, driven by Anthropic’s rapid growth trajectory. One institutional investor is prepared to invest up to $5 billion but has yet to connect with Anthropic’s Chief Financial Officer, Krishna Rao.
Anthropic recently disclosed that its annual revenue run rate has surpassed $30 billion, a substantial leap from approximately $9 billion at the end of 2025. Some insiders suggest that the current run rate is nearing $40 billion.
A substantial portion of this revenue surge stems from Anthropic’s AI coding capabilities, particularly through its Claude Code and Cowork platforms. Many investors believe the company has not fully tapped its potential, especially with opportunities to broaden its services across various industries such as finance, life sciences, and healthcare.
Anthropic declined to provide further comments on these developments.
In February, the company secured its previous funding round at a valuation of $380 billion. Should it move forward with a new round as reported, Anthropic would not only more than double its valuation but could also meet or exceed that of its primary competitor, OpenAI, which recently completed a record-breaking fundraising round amounting to $122 billion, resulting in a post-money valuation of $852 billion.
The anticipation surrounding Anthropic’s growth and funding capabilities underscores the escalating interest in artificial intelligence ventures, marking it as a pivotal player in the tech industry.
