Google has announced exciting new AI features aimed at enhancing summer travel planning. The company introduced these updates on Friday, highlighting that its AI Mode can now assist users in checking the availability of specific items at local stores and tracking hotel prices directly through its Search platform.
With the latest enhancements, Google’s AI can make queries to nearby retailers on behalf of users. This functionality, which initially launched in November, will soon be rolled out across the United States. Users can simply describe the item they are looking for, such as, “I forgot to pack my prescription sunglasses and need clip-on ones that fit over my current glasses. Where can I find them nearby?” Google’s AI will then reach out to the stores, providing subsequent details about availability.
Moreover, while users previously tracked hotel prices at a city level, the update allows for price tracking at the individual hotel level. On the desktop version, users can retrieve prices by searching for a specific hotel and enabling the new price tracking toggle. For mobile users, this option can be found under the “Prices” tab after conducting a search. Once activated, users will receive email notifications when there’s a price change for their specified dates.
In addition to these advancements, Google disclosed the most popular international and domestic summer destinations for 2026, which include St. Maarten, Stockholm, Kansas City, Missouri, and Sarasota, Florida. The company also revealed a significant rise in search interest surrounding AI in travel, with terms like “AI travel assistant” and “AI concierge” increasing by 350% in the past year. Furthermore, queries such as “how to use AI to find flight deals” and “AI flight booking” have surged by 315%, indicating a growing reliance on AI tools for travel planning.
These features exemplify Google’s commitment to leveraging AI technology to assist users in making informed travel decisions and enhancing overall convenience during the travel planning process.
