Anthropic is actively seeking investors for a significant fundraising round expected to reach around $50 billion, with a deadline for allocation submissions set within the next 48 hours. This funding is anticipated to close in approximately two weeks. The company aims for an impressive valuation of $900 billion, though, due to high investor interest, it is possible the final valuation could exceed this target.
Despite this intense demand, some early investors from 2024 and prior are opting out of this fundraising round, choosing instead to wait for a potential cash-out during the company’s upcoming IPO, likely to happen later this year. This current fundraising effort is thought to be Anthropic’s last private round before going public, aimed at financing its substantial computing requirements.
Recently, Anthropic reported an annual revenue run rate exceeding $30 billion, which some insiders claim may be closer to $40 billion. In its previous funding round in February, the company had a valuation of $380 billion. If it successfully achieves the $900 billion target, Anthropic would more than double its previous valuation and surpass its main competitor, OpenAI, which raised a record $122 billion earlier this year, reaching an $852 billion valuation.
Anthropic has declined to provide any official comments regarding this fundraising effort.
