Google Integrates AI Features into Chrome to Enhance Your Favorite Workflows

by admin

Google has unveiled new AI enhancements for its Chrome browser, launching a feature called Skills. This innovative tool enables users to save and reuse their preferred AI prompts, allowing seamless application across various web pages without the need to re-enter them.

These updates stem from Google’s integration of its Gemini AI technology into Chrome, which has been rolled out alongside emerging contenders in the browser market, such as OpenAI’s Atlas, Perplexity’s Comet, and The Browser Company’s Dia.

Gemini facilitates user requests such as querying website content, summarising information, or executing multiple tasks. With the introduction of Skills, the functionality expands significantly; users can now create AI prompts that are easily retrievable with a simple click. For example, if a user frequently requests vegan substitutes while browsing recipe sites, they can save that prompt for future reference across different platforms.

To utilise this feature, users can save prompts directly from their chat history, transforming them into Skills that can be executed by typing a forward slash (/) or clicking the plus (+) icon in Gemini. This action will initiate the Skill on the current webpage and any selected tabs. Additionally, users retain the option to modify these Skills whenever necessary.

Initial testing revealed that early users engaged with Skills for various tasks, including tracking health metrics, comparing shopping options, and summarising lengthy documents. In support of user adoption, Google will also launch a Skills library, presenting common tasks across categories like productivity, shopping, and budgeting. Users can incorporate pre-set Skills into their collection and personalize them based on individual needs.

As with other actions carried out by Gemini in Chrome, Skills will require user confirmation before executing certain commands, such as sending emails or adding calendar events. The rollout of this feature will commence today for Chrome desktop users logged into their Google accounts, with initial support limited to English (US) language settings.

In summary, the new Skills feature is set to revolutionise how Chrome users interact with AI, making it easier and more efficient to leverage AI capabilities directly within their browsing experience.
