On Tuesday, Google unveiled the launch of its Gemini Personal Intelligence feature for users in India. This innovative tool allows individuals to connect their various Google accounts, including Gmail and Google Photos, enabling them to pose specific inquiries to Gemini for tailored responses.
Once linked, users can query Gemini about their plans, such as asking, “What are my travel plans for Jaipur?” From here, Gemini will draw information from emails, photos, and even recent YouTube videos the user has engaged with to provide contextual answers. Importantly, the feature also identifies the sources for its responses, allowing users to cross-verify information as needed.
At its initial rollout, the Personal Intelligence functionality will be available only to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in India, with plans to extend access to free users in the coming weeks. The introduction of this feature signifies Gemini’s expansion into India’s substantial market, following its beta release in the United States earlier this year. The service was fully launched for U.S. users in March and subsequently made available in Canada and Japan.
However, Google has issued a caveat regarding Gemini’s ability to interpret data contextually. The AI may occasionally misidentify connections between unrelated subjects or overlook subtle details. For example, while Gemini might see numerous photos of a user at a golf course and conclude they are an avid golfer, it misses the deeper nuance that the user might be there to support a loved one. Users can correct any misunderstandings by simply informing Gemini of their actual interests, such as saying, “I don’t like golf.”
This latest enhancement reflects Google’s commitment to rapidly roll out advanced AI capabilities in India, one of its largest markets. Earlier this year, the company introduced Gemini in Chrome for Indian users and recently facilitated restaurant bookings through AI partnerships with platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, and EazyDiner, demonstrating its drive to integrate AI more deeply into everyday experiences.
In summary, Google’s Gemini Personal Intelligence feature empowers users in India with personalized insights from their digital lives while highlighting the need for users to guide the AI’s understanding, ensuring more accurate and relevant interactions.
