Gitar, a Startup Leveraging Agents for Code Security, Launches from Stealth with $9 Million in Funding

The emergence of “vibe coding” has led to an overwhelming influx of AI-generated code, often referred to as “code overload,” which many companies now find challenging to handle. Recent studies indicate that while AI can produce code quickly, it frequently introduces bugs and quality issues, necessitating intervention by senior engineers before the code can be deployed.

In response to these challenges, a new startup named Gitar is leveraging AI to address the very problems it has contributed to. Founded by industry veteran Ali-Reza Adl-Tabatabai, with a background in Intel Labs, Google, and Uber, Gitar recently announced a funding round of $9 million led by Venrock, alongside contributions from Sierra Ventures.

Gitar offers a subscription-based platform that employs AI agents to manage a variety of code-quality tasks. These range from code reviews to overseeing continuous integration workflows, which ensure that code changes are regularly merged and tested to maintain stability. The platform also empowers engineering teams to create their own AI agents for security and maintenance operations.

According to Adl-Tabatabai, Gitar’s core function is “code validation,” aimed at confirming that software produced by enterprises is ready for production. He emphasised that while AI can generate code, validation is essential for ensuring reliability. Gitar acts as the orchestrator of this validation process, overseeing reviews, tests, and diagnostics comprehensively.

Looking ahead, Adl-Tabatabai envisions a future where automation plays a more prominent role in software development. He acknowledges that human review is currently a vital component of the production process but anticipates a shift towards relying on Gitar’s platform for quicker deployments. Ideally, human intervention would be reserved for exceptional scenarios, with Gitar’s validation system ensuring code is safe for release.

Despite an industry crowded with automated code-review solutions, Gitar seeks to carve a niche by concentrating on post-code generation. Adl-Tabatabai pointed out that while many competitors focus on code generation, Gitar prioritises what happens after the code is written.

The startup plans to utilise its new funding to expand its engineering and product teams and to enhance its capabilities to deliver its services more effectively and at scale. As the demand for streamlined software development processes continues to rise, Gitar aims to provide a solution that addresses the complexities introduced by AI-generated code.
