Skye, a new iPhone app currently in private testing, aims to transform the way users interact with artificial intelligence on their devices. Its creator claims the app has already garnered significant attention, suggesting strong demand for a more AI-integrated experience on iPhones, with “tens of thousands” already on the waitlist.
Unlike traditional chatbots or standalone applications, Skye is designed to function as an “agentic homescreen” that utilises iOS widgets. This innovative interface aims to provide users with ambient intelligence, offering personalised insights regarding weather, health, and more. The app can assist users by drafting email replies, helping with meeting preparations, sending reminders, and even alerting them to suspicious bank charges. It is also capable of offering location-based recommendations about local businesses and attractions, making it a versatile tool for daily life.
User privacy is central to Skye’s functionality, as it pulls in data only through connections that users agree to authorise. Created by a small team at Signull Labs, Skye’s funding has been impressive, with reported pre-seed investments exceeding $3.58 million and a valuation of $19.5 million following its recent funding round.
The founder of Signull Labs, who has a background with tech giants like Google and Meta, has remained somewhat elusive but recently confirmed his identity as Nirav Savjani. The startup has already captured the interest of notable investors, alongside the rising anticipation of future AI innovations, following a successful announcement that led to an explosion of user engagement—nearly a million views on promotional content and significant outreach from investors.
TechCrunch recently engaged with Savjani, who shared insights about Skye’s features and future plans. He noted that the app is set to launch soon for those on the waitlist, although specific dates remain undisclosed. Their ongoing efforts promise to deliver a unique AI-enhanced experience, hinting at the potential for a new direction in AI smartphone applications. As consumer propensity for more integrated and responsive AI platforms increases, Skye could be paving the way for a revolutionary shift in mobile technology.
