Porsche is set to launch its all-electric Cayenne Coupe later this year, with sales kicking off in late summer. This model, featuring four doors unlike traditional coupes, will expand the Cayenne’s electric range alongside the base Cayenne Electric, Cayenne S Electric, and Cayenne Turbo Electric, illustrating Porsche’s commitment to the growing electric vehicle (EV) market.
The Cayenne Coupe Electric is particularly promising, as the petrol-powered version introduced in 2019 quickly achieved 20% of Cayenne sales within a year. Astonishingly, this coupe variant now constitutes 40% of total Cayenne sales, reaching up to 90% in some markets, indicating strong consumer preference. Thus, despite its six-figure price, the electric variant appears to be a sound investment for Porsche.
Crucially, the Cayenne Coupe Electric will coexist with petrol and hybrid models, a different approach compared to the upcoming fully electric Macan, which will exclusively be an EV. Porsche plans to keep the Cayenne Coupe variants available alongside fuel models for potentially many years, allowing the company to gather valuable insight into buyer preferences between electric and traditional engines.
This model will be released approximately nine months post its initial unveiling, alongside its electric siblings. The Cayenne Coupe Electric line-up will consist of three variants: the base model, the S Coupe Electric, and the Turbo Coupe Electric, with starting prices of AUD 113,800, AUD 131,200, and AUD 168,000 respectively.
All versions promise robust powertrains, featuring an 800-volt architecture, air suspension, and unique design elements inspired by Porsche’s iconic 911. Furthermore, they come with the North American Charging Standard port popularised by Tesla, plus an additional AC charging option.
The base model boasts a powerful 435 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque, achieving a top speed of 230 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The Turbo Coupe Electric version ramps up performance to an astonishing 1,139 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet of torque, competes with performance titans like the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire, and rockets from 0 to 100 km/h in a blistering 2.4 seconds.
While Porsche has yet to provide EPA range estimates for these electric coupes, preliminary testing suggests a potential range of about 580 kilometres. However, those opting for larger tires might see a slight reduction in range due to increased rolling resistance.
Overall, Porsche’s entry into the fully electric Cayenne Coupe market signals its determination to meet evolving consumer demands while continuing to offer its distinct sportiness associated with the brand.
