Anthropic has introduced a new experimental tool called Claude Design, aimed at assisting individuals, particularly founders and product managers lacking design expertise, in visualising their concepts. The tool allows users to generate various visual materials such as prototypes, slides, and one-pagers using simple descriptions. For instance, users can instruct Claude to “create a prototype for a serene mobile meditation app, featuring calming typography and nature-inspired colours,” and then make refinements to the design as needed.
While it may appear that Claude Design is competing with popular platforms like Canva, Anthropic clarifies that the tool is intended to complement existing design software rather than replace it. Claude Design serves those who need to quickly translate an idea into a visual format, without starting from a traditional design tool. Completed projects can be exported as PDFs, URLs, or PPTX files and imported into Canva for further editing and collaboration.
An intriguing feature of Claude Design is its capability to incorporate a company’s design guidelines into each project, ensuring consistency with the overall visual brand. This is achieved by analysing a company’s codebase and design archives, allowing teams to refine visual elements while potentially managing multiple design systems.
Powered by Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Design is currently accessible in a research preview for subscribers of Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise packages. This launch signifies Anthropic’s strategic shift towards catering to enterprise and prosumer markets amid rising competition in AI productivity tools. Earlier in the year, the company released Claude Cowork, an advanced assistant for managing complex tasks, and subsequently introduced plugins for automating specific operations within varying company departments.
Recent reports from Bloomberg indicate that venture capitalists are keen on investing in Anthropic, with offers valuing the company at around $800 billion or more, potentially placing it at par or even above competitors like OpenAI. However, Anthropic has reportedly shown no interest in these recent investment propositions.
