Anthropic has recently unveiled a new experimental tool called Claude Design, aimed at simplifying visual creation for individuals without a design background, such as startup founders and product managers. This innovative product allows users to generate prototypes, slides, one-pagers, and more by simply describing their desired visuals. After Claude produces an initial version, users can make adjustments through edits or specific requests.
For instance, a user might instruct Claude to “prototype a serene mobile meditation app with calming typography, nature-inspired colours, and a simple layout,” after which they can modify design elements like colour schemes or text size, including features such as a dark mode toggle.
While initially perceived as a potential competitor to widely-used design platforms like Canva, Anthropic states that Claude Design is designed to complement existing tools rather than replace them. It targets users who seek a quick transition from concept to visual representation without starting from a dedicated design software.
Once users create their presentations or prototypes, they can easily export the outputs as PDFs, URLs, or PPTX files, or even transfer them to Canva for comprehensive editing and collaboration. Claude Design can also adapt a company’s established design system to ensure visual consistency across all projects, utilising access to the company’s codebase and design files. Additionally, teams can manage multiple design systems, allowing for flexibility and refinement in their visual presentations.
Powered by Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Design is currently available in a research preview phase for subscribers of Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise tiers. This launch signifies Anthropic’s commitment to expanding its presence in the enterprise and prosumer market amid increasing competition in AI workplace tools. Earlier this year, Anthropic introduced Claude Cowork, an assistant designed to tackle complex tasks, and has since added plugins to automate specific tasks within various company departments.
This announcement follows reports of substantial interest from venture capitalists, as Bloomberg indicated that investors are proposing a funding round that could value Anthropic at $800 billion or more, potentially rivaling even OpenAI. However, the company has reportedly declined these offers for the time being.
