ZeroTier Secures $13.5 Million in Funding to Prevent Network Issues Similar to Those Experienced by CrowdStrike

Amidst the global turmoil triggered by the CrowdStrike update, a nascent enterprise has secured $13.5 million in funding to bolster security for devices caught in the crossfire. ZeroTier, hailing from California, successfully completed its Series A funding initiative, spearheaded by Battery Ventures.

Traditional entities such as Cisco and Palo Alto Networks have their focus on safeguarding edge networks, but the emerging leaders in this field are zeroing in on device security. ZeroTier operates within this niche and proudly serves over 3 million devices and 600,000 network overseers spanning over 230 countries and regions globally.

In an interesting shift in leadership, the firm welcomed Andrew Gault, a former venture capitalist, as its head in May of this year. Tasked with steering revenue and the company’s expansion, Gault’s appointment follows founder Adam Ierymenko’s transition to CTO, where he will concentrate on the foundational technology and strategic trajectory, shared by spokesperson Jennefer Traeger. Gault, who has a rich background including co-founding Gaikai—a streaming service for video games purchased by Sony for $380 million in 2012—and being an inaugural investor in Oculus VR, was also a pivotal member of 7percent Ventures.

Gault identified a gap in the market for scalable, hardware-neutral solutions for businesses, highlighting ZeroTier’s unique position: “Our focus tends more towards a device-centric approach rather than conventional servers and laptops, eyeing routers and sensors instead. With over 18 billion devices presently online, a number projected to reach 32 billion by 2030, ensuring secure connectivity remains a largely unaddressed challenge. Our solution facilitates secure communication between these myriad devices, akin to them being part of a local network in your personal workspace. That’s the domain we aim to conquer,” as stated during his discussion with TechCrunch.

Among ZeroTier’s client roster is Metropolis, renowned for its innovative checkout-free parking payment solutions.

The funding round also saw participation from Bonfire Ventures, Anorak Ventures, Grand Enterprises B.V., Airbridge Equity Partners, and First In Ventures.
