YouTube has announced an increase in subscription fees for both YouTube Premium and YouTube Music in the U.S., marking the first price adjustment since 2023. The individual plan for YouTube Premium will rise from $13.99 to $15.99 per month, while the family plan will see an increase from $22.99 to $26.99. For those opting for YouTube Premium Lite, the cost will change from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.
Similarly, the individual YouTube Music subscription will increase from $10.99 to $11.99 per month, with the family plan going up from $16.99 to $18.99. These new prices will impact both new users and existing subscribers, who will be informed via email at least 30 days prior to the change.
A YouTube spokesperson stated that the price adjustments are essential for maintaining a quality user experience that supports creators and artists on the platform. The spokesperson added, “This change allows us to maintain features our members value most: ad-free viewing, background play, and a massive library of 300M+ tracks.” The company aims to cater to different customer preferences by offering several subscription options.
This marks the second price increase in recent months for YouTube; earlier in July 2023, YouTube Premium prices rose from $11.99 to $13.99, while YouTube Music’s subscription cost increased from $9.99 to $10.99.
As of March 2025, YouTube reported 125 million subscribers across its music and premium services, an increase from 100 million in 2024, highlighting the growing popularity of the platform.
YouTube’s price hikes are part of a broader trend in the streaming industry, which has seen other platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Spotify also raise their subscription costs within the last year. This collective price increase reflects the ongoing need for streaming services to balance operational costs and create sustainable revenue models while still providing valuable content to their audiences.
