YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Prices Are on the Rise

by admin

YouTube has announced a hike in subscription pricing for both YouTube Premium and YouTube Music in the United States. As confirmed to TechCrunch, the prices for various plans will rise as the company aims to enhance the experience for creators and subscribers.

The individual YouTube Premium plan will see an increase from $13.99 to $15.99 per month, while the family plan will escalate from $22.99 to $26.99 per month. Additionally, the YouTube Premium Lite plan, which excludes music videos and songs but still offers ad-free viewing, will rise from $7.99 to $8.99 monthly.

For YouTube Music, the individual plan will go from $10.99 to $11.99 per month, and the family plan will increase from $16.99 to $18.99 per month. These changes are applicable to both new and existing subscribers, with current users receiving notification via email at least 30 days prior to the implementation of the new prices.

A YouTube spokesperson emphasised that this is the first price adjustment since 2023, noting it is necessary to maintain the high-quality service subscribers expect, which includes ad-free viewing, background play, and access to a vast library featuring over 300 million tracks. The company continues to offer a variety of plans, allowing users to select what suits them best.

The last price increase for YouTube Premium occurred in July 2023, when it rose from $11.99 to $13.99, with YouTube Music increasing from $9.99 to $10.99. In March 2025, YouTube reported a total of 125 million subscribers across both YouTube Music and YouTube Premium, a rise from 100 million in 2024.

These price adjustments align with a broader trend among streaming platforms. Recently, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have increased their prices, while Spotify made adjustments earlier in the year. Other services like HBO Max, Peacock, and Disney+/Hulu also saw price hikes last year, highlighting a growing pattern within the industry.
