YouTube is experimenting with a budget-friendly Premium subscription option for couples.

YouTube is currently trialling a new two-person Premium subscription in several regions, including India, France, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, as confirmed by the company to TechCrunch. This initiative, first reported by Money Control, aims to enhance flexibility and value for subscribers by allowing two individuals living together to share a subscription at a discounted rate.

Similar to Spotify’s Duo subscription, this plan offers access to YouTube Premium features—such as ad-free viewing and background playback—without the need to commit to a full family plan. This could attract users who previously cancelled their Premium subscriptions following recent price hikes, enticing them back with a more affordable option.

In addition to this test, YouTube has been exploring various subscription models to diversify its offerings. In March, the platform introduced Premium Lite, allowing users to watch most videos without ads for $7.99 per month, currently available in the US, Australia, Germany, and Thailand. The combined user base for YouTube Music and YouTube Premium now exceeds 125 million globally, including those on trial subscriptions.

As the trial unfolds, it remains unclear whether YouTube will implement the two-person Premium plan more broadly or expand it to additional countries in the future.
