X Reintroduces Voice Notes Feature to X Chat

by admin

X has reintroduced the ability to share audio messages, known as Voice Notes, within its direct messaging platform, X Chat, after a brief hiatus. Announced on Wednesday, this feature is now available for private conversations and group chats, enhancing the messaging experience.

To use the Voice Notes feature, users simply need to tap the voice input icon located next to the chat text box. While initially, users were required to press and hold the button to record their messages, a new gesture allows for recording by pressing, holding, and swiping up, providing a more convenient way to send voice notes.

This update positions X Chat to better compete with other messaging applications that have long included audio messaging as a standard feature. The timing is particularly crucial as X has recently spun off X Chat into a standalone app, which has drawn mixed reactions from users, especially since the initial upgrade led to the removal of voice messaging capabilities.

The introduction of Voice Notes follows a series of beta tests for X Chat on iOS that focus on enhanced messaging features. Despite claims of end-to-end encryption for chats, security experts have cautioned that X Chat may not measure up in security compared to other encrypted platforms like Signal.

Owner Elon Musk’s vision for X is ambitious; he envisions it evolving into an all-encompassing “everything app.” This shift is part of a broader strategy that includes testing separate apps for other features, such as X Money, the platform’s payment service.

Voice Notes had been anticipated within the X Chat launch roadmap, with the company indicating that the functionality would return soon after its brief removal. X Chat now offers various features, including message editing and deletion, screenshot notifications, file sharing, and options for voice and video calls, enhancing user engagement within the platform.

The reintroduction of voice messages could potentially relieve frustrated users and reaffirm X’s commitment to refining its messaging services amidst increasing competition in the digital communication landscape.
