X Launches Automatic Translation and Photo Editing Features Powered by Grok

by admin

Social media platform X has introduced two significant features aimed at enhancing user experience: automatic post translation and an innovative photo editor. These updates are powered by the Grok models from X’s AI division, xAI, marking a substantial advancement in the platform’s capabilities.

On Tuesday, Nikita Bier, X’s product head, announced the global rollout of the automatic translation feature. Users can enable this feature with ease; if desired, they can disable it for specific languages by tapping a gear icon on translated posts. This initiative aims to broaden the reach of posts across diverse languages, allowing for greater global interaction.

Similar strategies have been adopted by other platforms like Reddit, which has been exploring machine translation for several years. X’s latest update reflects a growing trend among social networks to facilitate cross-language communication.

In addition to translation, X is launching a new image editor for its iOS app. This editor enhances user creativity by incorporating tools for drawing, adding text, and blurring out sensitive details, such as personal identification information in photos. Notably, users can also utilise natural language prompts to request specific edits. For example, asking Grok to transform a photo into a museum painting will generate the desired artistic interpretation.

These updates are set to extend to Android devices in the near future. However, earlier this year, the platform faced criticism when it allowed users to modify individuals’ images inappropriately. In response, X limited some image generation capabilities to paid subscribers, although it remains to be seen if the new image editing features will also have similar restrictions.

This move by X follows a trend seen across the tech industry, with various companies like Google and Adobe integrating AI to provide users with tools that allow for advanced image manipulation merely through descriptive prompts.

Overall, these enhancements reflect X’s commitment to improving the platform’s functionality and user engagement while navigating the challenges of content management and user consent.
