X has introduced a new feature allowing select creators to upload videos in 4K resolution, aiming to enhance user engagement and reduce the likelihood of users turning to platforms like YouTube or Vimeo for video content. This upgrade is set to be accessible to all premium subscribers in the near future, as announced via X’s engineering account.
Previously, premium users were limited to uploading videos at 1080p quality, with a maximum file size of 8GB and a duration of up to three hours. The introduction of 4K uploads suggests potential adjustments to the size limit for subscribers, although specific details have yet to be confirmed on X’s support page.
Since Elon Musk took the helm at X, the platform has actively promoted increased video content sharing among its users, incrementally raising the video upload limits for subscribers. Earlier this year, X also launched a dedicated feed for vertical videos, complete with a shortcut on the homepage of its mobile applications. This move follows the growing uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s status in the U.S., indicating X’s strategic intent to capture a share of the video content market.
With the anticipated enhancement of 4K uploads, X is making strides to solidify its position in the competitive video sharing landscape and engage creators and users alike.
