Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz Electric Van Priced at $59,995 for a 234-Mile Range

Nearly two and a half years since its announcement in the U.S., Volkswagen’s electric minivan is gradually making its way to market availability. The latest updates include its pricing and the anticipated EPA range.

Priced at $59,995, the 2025 ID. Buzz Pro S model offers a package that includes a seating arrangement for seven, rear-wheel drive, and a 91 kWh battery. However, with these features, the van’s driving range is anticipated to be 234 miles as per EPA estimates, failing to meet Volkswagen’s initial target by approximately 25 miles as of last year.

Yet, at this price point, purchasers can expect a van that comes adequately equipped, featuring a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, tri-zone climate management, acoustic glass, an assortment of cutting-edge driving assistance functionalities, and front seats that are heated, cooled, and come with a massage function.

Choosing the Pro S Plus variant tacks on an additional $3,500 to the base price and includes extras such as a head-up display, tow hitch, and superior audio system, amongst other enhancements. For an extra $4,500, buyers can upgrade to all-wheel drive, gaining not only more traction but also extra interior luxuries like second-row captain’s chairs and a heated windshield. (Note that opting for AWD reduces the range by four miles but increases output to 335 horsepower from the basic 282 horsepower.)

For those desiring the full array of features, the launch-exclusive 1st Edition is available, incorporating all available options and featuring a selection of the concept’s attractive two-tone exterior paint schemes. Pro S Plus purchasers have the option for the two-tone look at an additional cost. The 1st Edition with rear-wheel drive is priced at $65,495, whereas the all-wheel-drive version is priced at $69,995.

Given that the ID. Buzz will be manufactured in Europe and shipped to the U.S., it is not expected to be eligible for federal tax incentives.

Comparatively speaking, the pricing for this three-row EV seems reasonable within a segment that is notably sparse in choices. It undercuts the starting prices of the Tesla Model S, Rivian R1S, and Mercedes-Benz EQS, all of which are significantly higher. Both the Tesla Model S and Mercedes-Benz EQB offer third-row seating that is less than spacious.

The Kia EV9 emerges as a strong competitor. With a $59,200 price tag, buyers get a vehicle with captain’s chairs, an impressive 304 miles of range, and a comparable set of features to the VW minivan. For those willing to compromise on range for savings, an EV9 model with 230 miles of range is available for $5,000 less than the base ID. Buzz. Additionally, Kia has been enticing customers with generous offers to counterbalance the lack of current tax incentives, and once production starts in Georgia, it is expected to qualify for federal incentives.

Volkswagen may need to explore substantial incentives or capitalize on the significant interest the minivan has garnered over time to see a high volume of ID. Buzz sales.
