Vercel’s CEO Guillermo Rauch Indicates IPO Preparedness Amid Revenue Boost from AI Agents

by admin

Vercel, a decade-old development tool and website hosting platform, is thriving amid the surge of AI-generated applications, unlike many startups formed before the ChatGPT era. CEO Guillermo Rauch highlighted at the recent HumanX conference in San Francisco the shift from a niche group of developers deploying applications to a global community now equipped to create apps.

The rise in app development by non-developers has spurred significant growth for Vercel, propelling its annual recurring revenue (ARR) from around $100 million at the start of 2024 to a projected $340 million by February 2026.

When questioned about potential IPO plans, Rauch indicated that Vercel is already functioning with the accountability typical of a public company. He did not provide a specific timeline for the IPO but affirmed that the company is progressively preparing for it. Despite expectations for a strong year of public listings in 2026, the surge in AI concerns and a downturn in the software sector have stalled many Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), with only a few companies like SpaceX, Anthropic, and OpenAI discussing public debuts.

While many tech executives have remained silent on their IPO strategies, Rauch emphasises Vercel’s readiness, hinting that a public listing may be on the horizon. He pointed out that the market for infrastructure is expanding exponentially, likening it to having no ceiling.

As the trend shifts towards AI agents creating applications, Vercel aims to be the favourable platform for hosting these developments. Rauch noted that 30% of the applications on Vercel’s platform are already generated by these agents, which are seen as catalysts for accelerating software production. He emphasised that the ease of creating bespoke solutions through agents might overshadow the need to source existing software.

Vercel was last valued at $9.3 billion after securing $300 million in a Series F funding led by Accel in September. Positioned as a competitor to Cloudflare and Amazon Web Services, Vercel also provides v0, a vibe coding tool designed for developing websites and applications. The company is poised to capitalize on the ongoing evolution in app creation, anticipating a future where it becomes the mainstay for hosting AI-generated solutions.
