Venture capital firm Insight Partners has announced plans to inform a number of individuals whose personal data was compromised during a cyberattack that occurred in January. In a recent update, the firm revealed that notifications would be sent on a rolling basis starting in the next few days. The breach involves sensitive information related to both current and former employees, as well as details concerning its limited partners—investors who provide capital to Insight’s funds while typically remaining anonymous.
Additionally, the stolen data encompasses information about several funds, management entities, and portfolio companies, which includes banking and tax details. This revelation marks the first time Insight has confirmed the data breach following the incident in January, where they initially described the cyberattack as stemming from a “sophisticated” social engineering scheme. However, they have yet to present concrete evidence backing this claim, leaving the exact details of the breach ambiguous.
As of now, a spokesperson for Insight Partners has not responded to requests for additional comments. The firm, which boasts more than $90 billion in regulated assets, ranks among the largest investors in technology startups globally. It has played a significant role in funding cybersecurity firms like Wiz and Armis.
The incident at Insight Partners follows a troubling trend, as various venture capital firms have come under cyberattacks in recent years. A notable example includes Advanced Technology Ventures, which experienced a ransomware attack in 2021 that led to the theft of data related to their limited partners.
