Unique, a Swiss AI Finance Platform, Secures $30 Million in Funding

by admin

A Swiss startup, only four years in the making, has successfully secured significant funding to harness the rapidly growing “agentic AI” trend.

Unique announced on Thursday that it has acquired $30 million in a Series A funding round, spearheaded by London-based venture capital firm DN Capital along with CommerzVentures, which is the investment division of Germany’s Commerzbank.

“Agentic AI” stands out as one of the most significant trends in the tech sector today, though a single definition of an AI agent remains elusive. The fundamental idea is that an AI agent should possess capabilities far beyond those of a basic chatbot, allowing it to make decisions and perform various tasks—ranging from online shopping and expense reporting to enhancing factory efficiency.

Founded in Zurich in 2021 by CEO Manuel Grenacher, CCO Michelle Heppler, and CTO Andreas Hauri (as shown above), Unique aims to empower an agentic AI workforce tailored for financial services, including banking, insurance, and private equity.

This encompasses workflow automation in areas like research, compliance, and KYC (“know your customer”). Unique offers several customizable AI agents ready for immediate deployment, one of which is an investment research agent that utilizes both internal and external data to respond to natural-language inquiries.

Additionally, there’s a due diligence agent that scrutinizes documents, such as meeting notes, and compares them against previous assessments to propose relevant questions for bank staff to consider.

Initially, the company concentrated on AI-driven video solutions for sales teams, but it has since transformed into something that resembles a “co-pilot for finance teams.” In 2023, Unique partnered with Swiss private bank Pictet, which now also serves as a strategic investor.

Unique has also attracted a range of prominent Swiss financial institutions as clients, including UBP and Graubündner Kantonalbank.

With the recent $30 million funding, Unique intends to expedite its global growth, particularly targeting the U.S. market. So far, the company has raised a total of $53 million.
