On Tuesday, the United Auto Workers union announced it had launched federal labor complaints against Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
According to the union, both Trump and Musk engaged in efforts to “intimidate and threaten workers” participating in strikes, as evidenced by their dialogue in the controversial X Spaces interview on Monday night.
During the conversation, Trump said to Musk, “They strike, and I won’t say which company, but they strike and you respond, That’s OK, you’re all fired. You’re all fired. So, every single one of you, fired,” evidently referencing punitive actions against striking employees.
The UAW, which has recently given its endorsement to Vice President Kamala Harris for presidency, interpreted these comments as an endorsement of dismissing striking workers, a practice prohibited by the National Labor Relations Act.
UAW president Shawn Fain criticized the actions, stating, “Both Trump and Musk would rather have the working class keep quiet and comply, and their blatant mockery of this is appalling, against the law, and quite expected from these individuals.”
