On Tuesday, the AI-based travel assistant company Mindtrip unveiled a new functionality that allows users to bookmark or compile itineraries from various online locations.
With Mindtrip, simply by entering a URL from sources like a Reddit thread or a blog article, users can request the AI assistant to craft an itinerary around mentioned destinations. These spots can then be visualized on a map, enabling users to effortlessly add them to a favorites list or an upcoming journey compilation. Links from social media platforms like YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram can be employed to extract a list of discussed locations, although the feature currently operates with TikTok clips that include text descriptions. For YouTube content, it leverages video transcripts to propose relevant spots.
Users also have the option to upload an image of a ticket or list cities they plan to visit, and then Mindtrip’s assistant provides suggestions for attractions, eateries, and bars.
Mindtrip’s CEO, Andy Moss, pointed out, “Travel planning isn’t inherently sequential, yet the industry has always been presented through such a lens,” highlighting the need for a more flexible approach.
“Our solution, Start Anywhere, is set to revolutionize how the plethora of online travel content can be transformed into practical travel plans.” With statistics indicating that 75 percent of travelers find inspiration from digital platforms or social networks, we anticipate this innovation to significantly alter vacation planning dynamics,” Moss added.
Furthermore, Mindtrip is initiating a creator program, allowing content producers to create a unique Mindtrip link to share in their profiles or along with their posts. This link, when accessed, prompts Mindtrip to compose an itinerary derived from the creator’s content.
Creators are encouraged to enhance AI-curated itineraries by incorporating their personal photos, videos, and tips. Mindtrip offers creators a financial incentive for each new registered user, with the potential for creators to earn as much as $10,000 monthly through this scheme.
Additionally, Mindtrip announced plans to introduce a profit-sharing scheme later in the year, where creators will receive a portion of the earnings from bookings made via their travel plans.
Having secured a $7 million investment from Costanoa Ventures last year, Mindtrip, founded by a team of 12 seasoned entrepreneurs, has been highlighted by OpenAI during its developer day. The application, which has been undergoing beta testing, became available to the public in May.
Mindtrip asserts it relies on a unique database encompassing over 6.5 million locations, combined with OpenAI’s technology, for precise itinerary suggestions. It utilizes maps, links, and image overlays to enhance the relevancy of its recommendations.
This year, the company aims to roll out a group chat feature for organizing trips with family and friends, alongside launching an iOS app.
Mindtrip is not the only player in this field; startups like Layla (which acquired the itinerary-building bot Roam Around), Pilot, Byway, and Sēkr, have integrated AI to assist travellers in planning their journeys based on various criteria. Google is also exploring the potential of AI for creating travel itineraries.
