TikTok Introduces New Meditation Feature to Encourage Better Sleep Habits Away from the App

by admin

TikTok has introduced a new feature that offers in-app guided meditation exercises for all users, following a successful trial with a select group of teenagers earlier this year. The aim of this initiative is to enhance sleep quality and discourage prolonged late-night scrolling on the platform.

For users under 18, the meditation feature will be enabled by default. If these teens attempt to use the app after 10 PM, they will be prompted to participate in a guided meditation session designed to help them relax and prepare for sleep. This experience includes soothing visuals, calming music, and breathing exercises. Should they choose to dismiss the initial prompt, a follow-up screen will encourage them to cease their late-night activities and head to bed.

In recent years, TikTok has been implementing various safety features aimed at protecting younger users from the possible adverse impacts of the app. The addition of this meditation functionality is part of a broader strategy to address concerns from both parents and lawmakers regarding the platform’s effect on the wellness of minors.

Adults wishing to use the meditation feature can easily access it by visiting the app’s Screen Time settings. They will have the option to select their preferred time for the meditation exercise each night.

In addition to the launch of this feature, TikTok has committed to donating $2.3 million in advertising credits to 31 mental health organisations across 19 countries, as part of its Mental Health Education Fund. This effort reflects TikTok’s ongoing commitment to support mental health initiatives and promote overall wellness among its user base.
