During Meta’s Q1 2025 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Instagram Threads, the company’s competitor to X, has reached over 350 million monthly active users. This marks a notable increase of 30 million users since the last quarter, where Threads had recorded 320 million users.
The growth over the first quarter of 2025 is stronger than in the final quarter of 2024, which saw an addition of 20 million users. Interestingly, Threads is adding users at a rate comparable to that of Bluesky, a decentralized social platform that currently boasts around 35 million users.
Although Threads remains smaller than Meta’s more established platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, its rapid user growth is solidifying its position in the microblogging arena. Overall, Meta reports that over 3.4 billion individuals engage with at least one of its applications daily.
Zuckerberg expressed optimism about Threads’ trajectory, suggesting that its growth positions it to become a significant player among social applications.
