As Meta entices TikTok creators to join Instagram and Facebook through cash incentives, its rival Threads on Instagram is rolling out new features aimed at enhancing the user experience for creators, brands, and professionals seeking more robust management tools. On Thursday, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, unveiled several new functionalities for Threads, including the ability to schedule posts and gain more detailed insights through the Insights dashboard.
In a post shared on the platform, Mosseri revealed that Threads users can now schedule their posts and access detailed metrics for individual posts within the Insights section. This new functionality enables users to monitor trends related to their views, follower counts, geographical demographics, interaction types, and more over specific timeframes.
Users can access the scheduling feature through the three-dot menu in the composer, as explained in a post by Threads. To schedule a post, users need to click on “Schedule,” select the desired date and time, and confirm by clicking “Schedule” again. All scheduled posts will be saved in the drafts folder, allowing users to modify or delete them prior to publication.

Moreover, Mosseri also announced that Threads is introducing a new capability for users to “markup” posts they plan to reshared, allowing them to include their own artistic flair. Although he did not delve into the specifics or give examples, findings from tech enthusiast Chris Messina suggest that Threads will incorporate a new icon adjacent to the buttons for adding photos, GIFs, voice, hashtags, and more, which will provide access to this new feature.
This squiggle icon, upon being clicked, will direct users to a new interface where they can select from tools like a highlighter or arrow tool, enabling them to draw directly on a Thread post. Lindsey Gamble uncovered this feature last week, demonstrating it in action on Threads through a post.

This addition may seem unusual for Threads, particularly since users typically share snippets from the internet, like news articles, where they can use highlighting or underlining in screenshots. Additionally, there hasn’t been a notable demand among consumers for a tool to directly annotate Threads posts.
Nonetheless, this feature presents an opportunity for Threads users to stand out in comparison to competitors like X, Bluesky, and Mastodon, which might be its strategic intent.
