Elon Musk’s nostalgic vision for X is taking shape as Tesla prepares to debut its diner styled after the 1950s.
Tesla is on the hunt for a special Diner Experience Specialist in Los Angeles who will collaborate with the charging operations team to deliver a “one-of-a-kind customer experience at the Tesla Diner,” as highlighted in a job listing on LinkedIn discovered first by Drive Tesla Canada’s blog.
This recruitment effort follows three years after Tesla’s move to trademark its brand in the realm of restaurant services, and comes seven years after Musk initially floated the concept of a hybrid Tesla charging station and diner.
Posted on LinkedIn two weeks ago, Tesla’s job advertisement attracted 26 applicants before the company closed the position to new submissions. Although the listing doesn’t specify an opening date, it hints at features such as a drive-in movie theater, fulfilling one of Musk’s previous promises.
Back in 2018, Musk tweeted his vision: “An old school drive-in, roller skates & rock-style restaurant at one of Tesla’s new Supercharger locations in LA.” He also envisioned an “outdoor screen showcasing a compilation of cinema’s most iconic moments.”

It’s hoped the cinematic feature won’t be limited to a continuous loop of Tropic Thunder.
The appointed experience specialist is tasked with overseeing the drive-in movie programming and updating digital content, among a wide range of digital responsibilities. Their role will encompass coordination with various Tesla departments such as the design studio, merchandise, UI, app, procurement, and leadership, as well as external suppliers, covering everything from launching new menu items to merchandising for Tesla.
PropertyShark data reveals the Diner’s future address as 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. The site is classified as a single-story restaurant/cocktail lounge, yet construction footage seems to depict a two-story structure. According to the building plans, Tesla envisions operating the dining establishment and charging facility around the clock, albeit the dual outdoor movie screens will only operate from 7am to 11pm daily. The site will feature approximately 30 Tesla supercharging bays.
Musk likened the diner concept in August 2023 to “Grease meeting The Jetsons alongside Supercharging”, mentioning it “should be ready later this year.” As is typical for the tech mogul, his projections are ambitiously set. Earlier in the year, he projected Tesla’s robotaxi unveiling in August, only to delay it till October.
