Tesla’s Revamped Model Y Set to Arrive in North America This March, Priced at $60,000

Tesla has revealed that its revamped Model Y SUV is set to arrive in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico this March, with a starting price just below $60,000.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of Tesla unveiling the new version of the Model Y, which is also expected in China and other Asian markets in March. By making this announcement, Tesla aims to launch the redesigned SUV globally at the same time—contrasting sharply with previous delays seen between the launch dates of the refreshed Model 3 sedan in Asia and North America in late 2023 and early 2024.

The introduction of the redesigned Model Y comes at a pivotal moment for Tesla, which experienced a decline in vehicle deliveries in 2024 compared to 2023. The company has cautioned investors about being in the midst of “two significant growth phases” stemming from the success of the Model Y, and it has promised to introduce new, yet-to-be-revealed models that will be constructed on existing production lines. These forthcoming models are expected to be more affordable than Tesla’s current line-up (beginning in the low $40,000s), but the exact pricing details remain uncertain.

CEO Elon Musk has suggested that these upcoming models, along with the Cybercab teased last October, will assist in the company’s transition from a traditional automotive manufacturer to an entity focused on robotics and AI innovation.

However, as Tesla’s vehicle models continue to age, the company has refreshed all its primary products—Model S and 3 sedans, and Model X and Y SUVs. In the last four years, only one genuinely new model, the Cybertruck, has been launched. Although the Cybertruck became the best-selling electric truck in the U.S. in 2024, it did not significantly enhance the company’s financial performance last year, nor has it turned out to be the blockbuster success Musk anticipated.

The newly styled Model Y might provide some much-needed relief for the company, although it comes with a higher starting price than its predecessors. The “Launch Series” special edition, an all-wheel-drive variant, kicks off at $59,990, offering buyers a 320-mile range and featuring Tesla’s most advanced driver-assistance system known as “Full Self-Driving (Supervised),” which usually costs an additional $8,000. In contrast, the older Model Y starts at $44,990 for a rear-wheel-drive model with a 337-mile range.

The most significant alterations to the new Model Y can be seen on its exterior, where the previously rounded front end has been replaced with a sleeker design accentuated by a narrow light bar extending across the hood. At the back, there’s also a light strip running the entire width of the rear.

Inside the upgraded SUV, Tesla has incorporated a customizable light strip that features around the cabin, introduced a new touchscreen for rear passengers, and made several enhancements aimed at improving user comfort, including powered rear seating and enhanced suspension.
