Echoing Elon Musk’s nostalgic vision for X, Tesla is on the verge of launching its diner that harks back to the 1950s.
In Los Angeles, Tesla is on the hunt for a Tesla Diner Experience Specialist. This individual will collaborate with the charging operations team to deliver an “exceptional customer experience at the Tesla Diner,” a revelation made through a LinkedIn job listing, initially identified by Drive Tesla Canada’s blog.
This LinkedIn job listing emerges three years subsequent to Tesla’s filing of three trademarks within the restaurant industry, and seven years post Musk’s initial public musings about merging a Tesla charging station with a diner.
Posted a fortnight ago on LinkedIn, this job attracted 26 applicants before Tesla ceased its acceptance of applications. While no explicit timeline for the diner’s opening is provided, the listing hints at Musk fulfilling his pledge to incorporate a drive-in cinema.
In a 2018 tweet, Musk announced: “Gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA.” This included plans for an “outdoor screen that plays a highlight reel of the best scenes in movie history.”
Let’s hope the movie selection extends beyond a constant loop of Tropic Thunder.
The Experience Specialist’s responsibilities will encompass managing the drive-in’s movie lineup and its content shifts, along with various digital tasks. The role is detailed to involve collaboration with multiple Tesla departments, like design studio, merchandise, UI, app, procurement, and leadership, as well as external suppliers, covering responsibilities from launching new menus to merchandising Tesla products.
The diner is set to be located at 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, as indicated by PropertyShark data. Despite being registered as a single-story restaurant/cocktail lounge/tavern, construction footage showcases a two-story establishment. Official plans suggest the restaurant and charging facility will operate around the clock, whereas the outdoor cinemas will function from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, alongside about 30 Tesla Supercharging stations.
Musk characterized the diner in August 2023 as a blend of “Grease meets The Jetsons with Supercharging,” aiming for a launch later the same year. Musk, famous for his ambitious forecasts, earlier claimed that Tesla’s robotaxi would debut in August, only to postpone its unveiling to October.
