TensorWave Secures $100 Million to Expand AMD-Driven Data Centre Infrastructure

Las Vegas-based data centre provider TensorWave has successfully raised $100 million to enhance its infrastructure, primarily leveraging AMD hardware. The funding round was spearheaded by Magnetar and AMD Ventures, pushing TensorWave’s total capital to $146.7 million, with contributions from Maverick Silicon, Nexus Venture Partners, and Prosperity7.

Despite economic challenges affecting data centre projects—such as tariff-induced price increases for essential components, which could elevate construction costs by 5% to 15%—TensorWave remains unfazed. CEO Darrick Horton reports that the company anticipates ending the fiscal year with revenue exceeding $100 million, a staggering 20-fold increase compared to the previous year.

While Nvidia dominates the AI data centre market with its hardware, TensorWave has been committed to using AMD products, positioning itself competitively by providing cloud services at lower costs. The company has recently established an extensive “dedicated training” cluster, featuring approximately 8,000 AMD Instinct MI325X GPUs. The latest funding will not only facilitate the expansion of this cluster but also support workforce growth, which is expected to double from 40 to over 100 employees by year-end.

Horton states that this $100 million investment is crucial for TensorWave’s mission to democratise access to advanced AI computing resources. The company aims to solidify its position as a leading provider of AMD-powered infrastructure in the burgeoning AI market. Notably, other firms investing in AMD’s AI chips range from startups like Lamini and Nscale to major cloud providers, including Azure and Oracle.

Co-founded in 2023 by Horton, Jeff Tatarchuk, and Piotr Tomasik, TensorWave draws on a wealth of experience from its leadership team. Tatarchuk has a history in cloud services, having launched VMAccel, while Tomasik co-created influencer marketing platform Influential.

In a landscape increasingly wary of data centre overcapacity, particularly given the rise of economical AI services, TensorWave’s unwavering growth and ambitious infrastructure developments illustrate its strategic engagement in the technology sector.
