Telegram, the chat application that turned a profit last year, has unveiled new updates for its apps, featuring enhancements such as an improved sticker search, the option to select video covers, and the ability to copy videos at specific timestamps.
In December, the company launched its AI-enhanced sticker search, which enabled users to find stickers using natural language queries. Initially, this feature was limited to just 40,000 stickers. The latest update, however, expands this capability, allowing users to search for stickers using phrases like “Thinking monkey” or “Dog eyebrow raise,” yielding results from millions of stickers available on the platform.

The latest update also introduces features aimed at improving video interactions within the app. Users can now share links to Telegram-hosted videos with precise timestamps, akin to YouTube. Additionally, the option to select a specific frame for the video cover image—similar to thumbnails on other platforms—has been incorporated. The video editor is also equipped with tools to add text, stickers, and emojis to the cover image.

Additionally, Telegram is implementing a feature that saves progress on videos, allowing users to continue watching from where they left off.
While some channels on the platform focus on sharing original content, Telegram has also gained a reputation for hosting pirated video content. The company took down 15 million groups and channels last year, although not all were associated with piracy.
In 2023, Telegram began enhancing its channel features by introducing new discovery tools that suggest similar channels when users join one. The strategy is now being extended to the discovery of bots, featuring a “Similar Bots” section on bot profile pages, helping users find related bot services.
