On Wednesday, Telegram revealed it is introducing new features that allow creators to monetize their content on the platform. A standout addition is the rollout of monthly subscriptions, purchasable with the app’s native currency, Stars, granting access to exclusive creator content.
Creators now have the capability to generate special invitation links that enable users to subscribe to their channel with a monthly Stars payment. This functionality is designed to offer creators a methodology akin to Patreon, facilitating the charge for premium or early access to their works.
Content providers have the autonomy to set their subscription prices, converting Stars into Toncoin cryptocurrency or obtaining ad subsidies. Telegram asserts a fee on transactions made with Stars, though the exact percentage is undisclosed.

Moreover, Telegram has unveiled Star Reactions, a tool that lets fans directly support creators. This feature shares similarities with YouTube’s “Super Thanks” and X’s Tips feature, with creators receiving 100% of Stars from these reactions.
These innovations are part of Telegram’s ongoing initiative to bolster creator income on the platform. Previously, the app had enabled content sales directly within channels and initiated a revenue-sharing model for ads with creators.
The launch of these features coincides with Telegram’s journey towards reaching a billion active users, having hit 950 million last month. The company’s founder, Pavel Durov, expressed optimism about achieving profitability in the upcoming year and is contemplating an IPO.
