SpaceX Unveils Compact Starlink Mini at $599 for Portable Use

by admin

SpaceX has announced the release of Starlink Mini, a compact variant of its satellite-based internet service, designed to be conveniently portable and easily carried in a backpack.

Select early Starlink users received offers to buy the Starlink Mini kit for $599, revealed by an invite shared with TechCrunch. This pricing is $100 above the cost of the standard Starlink setup. Additionally, these users could combine their current package with the Mini Roam option for an extra $30 monthly, albeit with a 50 gigabyte monthly data limit.

Consequently, a household with the basic Starlink subscription would see their expenses rise to $150 monthly. SpaceX has expressed intentions to lower the kit’s cost in future communications. Presently, the Mini Roam option cannot be purchased separately.

The communication highlighted SpaceX’s commitment to making Starlink more affordable and accessible, particularly in locations severely lacking in or completely devoid of connectivity. However, due to the increased load on the satellite network in areas of dense usage, SpaceX has introduced the Starlink Mini kit at $599 in limited quantities.

The Mini antenna, noted for its lightness, weighs approximately 2.5 pounds with its stand included, making it about 40% lighter than the conventional Starlink dish. Moreover, the service promises maximum download speeds surpassing 100 Mbps.

The first batch of Starlink Mini devices is expected to be delivered in July. This offering will likely attract individuals who frequently travel, and SpaceX’s CEO, Elon Musk, mentioned on X that the Mini serves as an economical alternative for reliable backup internet connectivity in case of primary service disruptions.

Starlink, developed by SpaceX, is a widely used satellite internet service with a network comprising over 6,000 satellites. It serves more than 3 million subscribers across 100 countries.
