Snowflake Expands Its Startup Accelerator with $200 Million in Fresh Funding

by admin

On Thursday, Snowflake announced plans to bolster its startup accelerator with an additional $200 million investment, reinforcing its status as a leader in cloud-based data storage reported.

This latest infusion of funds comes amid a series of initiatives by Snowflake in recent months, showcasing its ambitions for expansion.

The Snowflake Startup Accelerator, previously known as the Powered by Snowflake Funding Program, focuses on a diverse array of early-stage startups. It particularly emphasizes investments in startups developing AI-driven products tailored for specific industries using Snowflake’s platform. Participants in the accelerator benefit from technical guidance, co-marketing opportunities, and credits for Amazon’s public cloud services, AWS.

Noteworthy graduates from prior cohorts include Coalesce, Andrew Ng’s LandingAI, and TwelveLabs.

A portion of the newly allocated $200 million will be sourced from both new and existing venture capital partners, such as Bain Capital Ventures, Blackstone Innovations Investments, Bessemer Venture Partners, Capital One Ventures, General Catalyst, Greylock Partners, Hetz Ventures, Mayfield, NewBuild Venture Capital, NTTVC, and Virtue.

It’s important to note some stipulations. According to a blog post by Snowflake, while participating VC firms may choose to invest in companies within the Snowflake Startup Accelerator, there is “no guarantee” that any specific startup will receive funding or that the total targeted investment will be fully allocated.

In addition to this accelerator expansion, Snowflake recently unveiled plans for a 30,000-square-foot “AI hub” at its Menlo Park campus and launched a $20 million AI upskilling initiative, highlighting its aggressive investment approach in AI technologies. Just earlier this week, the company strengthened its partnership with Microsoft to integrate AI models from OpenAI. Furthermore, last year, Snowflake secured a multi-year agreement with Anthropic and acquired AI data pipeline firm Datavolo.

Snowflake’s strategic focus appears to be yielding positive results, as the company surpassed Wall Street analysts’ expectations for its latest fiscal quarter (Q4 2024), achieving a revenue of $987 million.
