Snapchat has introduced its latest feature, AI Clips, within Lens Studio, a platform enabling creators to design augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) effects known as Lenses. This innovative format allows users to transform a single photo into a dynamic five-second video.
Differentiating itself from open-ended text-to-video tools, AI Clips offers a more structured experience. Here, Lens creators design the Lenses while users simply tap on them to generate videos using their own photographs. For instance, a designer might create a Lens that lets users envision themselves walking down a red carpet, using just their photo.
This new feature is accessible to both seasoned and novice developers, allowing them to swiftly turn a single prompt into a published Lens within minutes, eliminating the need for external tools. AI Clips are part of the Lens+ subscription service, available for $8.99 per month. This subscription not only grants access to exclusive Lenses and AR experiences but also includes standard features available with Snapchat+.
Snapchat emphasised that with the introduction of AI Clips, developers can now directly create and publish photo-to-video AI content from the GenAI Suite in Lens Studio. They claim that this is a unique offering in the market, as it merges closed-prompt AI video generation with direct photo input, alongside real distribution and monetisation opportunities.
Creators participating in the Lens+ Payouts program, Snapchat’s monetisation initiative, can generate revenue from the AI Clips they produce, showcasing a new avenue for earning through content creation.
Additionally, Snapchat isn’t the only platform enhancing user-generated content with AI; YouTube recently revealed a feature called “Reimagine” that allows users to convert a single frame from a YouTube Short into an eight-second clip using their own images.
The announcement of AI Clips coincides with a remarkable statistic from Snapchat, revealing that users created nearly two trillion Snaps—approximately 63,000 per second—in 2025. This exciting new feature reflects Snapchat’s commitment to innovating user engagement through AI and creative technologies.
