ServiceNow Acquires Data.World Just Months After Its Purchase of Moveworks

by admin

On Wednesday, ServiceNow, a leading enterprise workflow management platform, announced its second acquisition focused on AI this year. The company revealed it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Data.World, a cloud-native data catalog and governance platform, now operating under the name Declan. Founded in 2015 and based in Austin, Texas, Data.World has raised over $130 million from notable investors like Alumni Ventures and Shasta Ventures.

While the financial specifics of the deal remain undisclosed, Declan was valued at $350 million following a $50 million Series C funding round in 2022. Gaurav Rewari, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Data Analytics at ServiceNow, stated that the company is keen on collaborating with businesses that can assist in effectively deploying AI at scale. He emphasized the importance of transforming enterprise data to make it “AI-ready,” acknowledging the challenges that often accompany this process.

Rewari highlighted that Declan’s capabilities in data organisation and searchable interfaces would significantly enhance ServiceNow’s offerings, particularly in maximising the utility of AI tools. He expressed confidence in Declan’s expertise in metadata management and data governance, viewing it as a strategic addition to ServiceNow’s product line.

Following the acquisition’s completion, Declan’s platform will be integrated into ServiceNow and will soon be available to its customers. This move marks ServiceNow’s second acquisition within a short span, having previously announced the acquisition of Moveworks, a provider of AI and automation tools for enterprises, for $2.85 billion in March.

Both acquisitions align with ServiceNow’s broader strategy to advance towards agentic AI while building a robust suite of tools necessary for its implementation. Philip Kirk, ServiceNow’s SVP of Corporate Business Development, remarked on the complex nature of strategically deciding whether to build, buy, or partner in this evolving landscape. He underscored the company’s commitment to making long-term decisions that best serve its customers while maintaining its competitive edge in enterprise automation.

In summary, ServiceNow’s acquisition of Declan underlines its ongoing dedication to bolstering its AI capabilities, enhancing data management efficiencies, and prioritising customer-focused innovation in the rapidly evolving tech sector.
