Samsung Integrates Google’s Gemini into Its Home Robot Ballie

by admin

Samsung recently announced its partnership with Google Cloud to integrate Google’s Gemini AI into its home robot, Ballie. This collaboration will allow Ballie users to engage with the AI by posing various questions and receiving real-time answers.

The integration aims to enhance Ballie’s functionality by leveraging Gemini’s multimodal capabilities. Samsung plans to combine its proprietary AI with Google’s technology, enabling the robot to respond to both audio and visual inputs. For instance, users can ask Ballie questions like, “How am I looking today?”, and the robot will utilise its camera and visual analysis to offer style advice.

In addition to fashion tips, Ballie will also provide health-related advice, such as exercise routines and suggestions for improving sleep quality. The robot will be capable of handling a wide range of general knowledge inquiries.

Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung’s visual display division, expressed the significance of this partnership, stating that Samsung and Google Cloud are transforming the role of AI within households. By combining Gemini’s sophisticated reasoning abilities with Samsung’s expertise, they aim to create an advanced AI companion that not only adapts to user needs but also interacts more meaningfully.

Samsung has been showcasing different iterations of Ballie at various tech exhibitions, including CES, over the years. The company is set to release the robot to consumers in South Korea and the U.S. in the first half of this year.

This isn’t the first time Samsung has collaborated with Google; earlier this year they integrated Gemini with their Galaxy series smartphones, beginning with the Galaxy S24. The two companies are also reportedly developing an XR (extended reality) device, where Gemini is likely to play a crucial role.
