Salesforce Unveils Major AI-Driven Revamp of Slack, Introducing 30 Innovative Features

by admin

Salesforce has been revamping its operations centred around artificial intelligence, and at a recent event in San Francisco, CEO Marc Benioff introduced an enhanced version of Slack, now with numerous new AI functionalities. The standout improvement is the upgraded Slackbot, which now boasts 30 additional features aimed at streamlining tasks.

Following a January update that introduced more autonomous capabilities for Slackbot—including drafting emails, scheduling meetings, and retrieving specific information from inboxes—the latest enhancements promise to further boost productivity. A remarkable addition is the concept of reusable AI skills, which allows users to define tasks for Slackbot that can be applied across various situations. While Salesforce provides a built-in library of these skills, users have the flexibility to create their own.

These capabilities enable users to reduce their workload significantly. For instance, a simple command in Slack, like “create a budget,” will prompt Slackbot to gather relevant data across Slack channels and integrated applications, leading to actionable plans. Furthermore, it will automatically organise a meeting with pertinent participants based on their roles.

In addition, the updated Slackbot acts as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) client, allowing it to interact with external services and tools. This includes connection to Agentforce, Salesforce’s AI agent development platform launched in 2024, which helps streamline workflows by directing tasks to the appropriate agents or applications within an organisation.

Rob Seaman, Slack’s interim CEO, mentioned that the new Slackbot can transcribe and summarise meetings, so participants can catch up on missed discussions by simply asking for a recap. Moreover, it can extend its capabilities beyond Slack by monitoring user activities across their desktop, drawing insights from deals, conversations, calendars, and habits. Based on this context, it suggests actions or drafts responses for important tasks while maintaining user privacy through adjustable permissions.

Salesforce aims to evolve Slack from merely an enterprise communication platform to a more comprehensive tool capable of managing various business functions. By integrating advanced AI capabilities, the intention is to make Slack integral to core business processes for its users.

Reflecting on the journey since Salesforce acquired Slack, Benioff noted the significant growth of the platform, emphasising that they now support about a million businesses using Slack, which has resulted in a remarkable revenue increase of two and a half times. The introduction of these features signifies Salesforce’s commitment to enhancing user experience and operational efficiency through innovative uses of AI.
