Rivian Unveils Compact $1,400 Camping Kitchen, Five Years Following Original Demonstration

by admin

Ever since its debut as a concept in 2019 during the Overland Expo West, the Rivian camp kitchen has been generating considerable excitement. Despite the buzz around this accessory, Rivian had not actually put it on the market. Originally, the camp kitchen was notably large and built to fit seamlessly into the R1T pickup’s distinctive gear tunnel.

But now, things have changed. Sort of.

On Thursday, Rivian introduced a revamped and renamed version of the kitchen — now smaller, more affordable, dubbed the “travel kitchen,” and available for purchase at $1,400. This iteration is ready for purchase right off the bat, contrasting with its prototype version. The new kitchen and its supplementary products highlight Rivian’s strategy to court outdoor lovers, also aiming to generate additional revenue. Among other initiatives, earlier this year, Rivian showcased a novel “treehouse” rooftop tent among its range of accessories planned for its upcoming R2 SUV and future R3 electric vehicles. This tent, which goes by the name treehouse, includes features like a movie projector powered by Rivian vehicles.

The original camp kitchen that appeared five years ago was cumbersome and necessitated a specific shuttle system for installation within the R1T’s gear tunnel to facilitate sliding in and out. The pricing for that version was set at $5,000 for the kitchen with an extra $1,500 for the shuttle system. Additionally, it included certain features like a refillable water tank, not found in the current model.

This compact, foldable new version makes transportation from the front trunk or gear tunnel to the tailgate effortless. It comes equipped with a dual-burner induction cooktop, capable of a combined output of 1500W, compatible with R1 vehicles or any 120V, 15A power source, as per Rivian’s specifications.

Included with the camp kitchen is a food-grade preparation area designed to stay stable on tailgates, as well as adjustable lighting with extendable poles for evening cooking or creating picture-perfect moments. These poles are designed for easy storage within the kitchen’s drawer.

Rivian continues to emphasize environmental sustainability, featuring a cutting board fashioned from recycled materials and an interior made from castor plants.

Additionally, Rivian is offering a plethora of additional accessories for the kitchen, ranging from cookware and utensils to aprons and a coffee grinder. These accessories result from a collaboration with the renowned outdoor brand Snowpeak, emphasizing Rivian’s commitment to quality and outdoor lifestyle.
