Pixel Watch 3 Introduces Groundbreaking ‘Pulse Disappearance’ Alert Capability

by admin

Google is elevating the wearable tech game with its latest release, the Pixel Watch 3, available in two sizes and introducing crucial health-tracking capabilities, including an innovative loss of pulse detection feature. Unveiled at the Made by Google 2024 event, this addition is part of a suite of new functionalities aimed at enhancing user health monitoring, offering a “readiness” metric for physical activity, a cardio load score, and a tailored daily target load that integrates these metrics to advise on optimal daily exertion levels.

Among these advancements, the standout is undoubtedly the ability to detect a loss of pulse, a vital tool not just for athletes but for anyone.

Google clarifies that a pulse loss can be indicative of severe health crises like cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, and even situations of overdose or poisoning, highlighting its potential occurrence across varied scenarios.

The tech giant underscores the modern capability for swift medical intervention, contingent upon the immediate alert to emergency services—a challenge when the person in need is alone, which Google notes, happens in more than half of such emergencies.

To address this, the Pixel Watch 3 will automatically dial emergency services if it detects a pulse loss, simultaneously communicating the wearer’s location to ensure prompt assistance. This function includes a safeguard against false alarms, with a countdown timer allowing the user to cancel the automated call.

Google emphasizes that the detection of a pulse loss is sophisticated, leveraging an AI-based algorithm that assesses both the pulse and other critical physical and motion data directly from the wrist.

Google aspires for this feature to become a foundational safety standard, akin to the lifesaving impact of airbags or smoke detectors, offering protection during unforeseeable moments.

Initially, the life-guarding pulse loss detection will be rolled out to Pixel Watch 3 users in select European countries and the U.K., with plans to extend its availability to additional regions.
