OpenAI Aims to Integrate Sora’s Video Creation Tool into ChatGPT

by admin

OpenAI plans to eventually incorporate its AI video creation tool, Sora, into its widely used chatbot application, ChatGPT, as discussed by company executives during a Discord office hours session on Friday.

Currently, Sora is accessible only through a specialized web application that OpenAI launched in December, enabling users to create cinematic clips lasting up to twenty seconds. However, Rohan Sahai, the product lead for Sora, stated that the company aims to integrate Sora into more platforms and enhance its creative capabilities.

Initially aimed at creatives and video production houses prior to its launch, OpenAI is now focusing on widening the user base for its AI video creation tool.

Sahai mentioned that OpenAI is diligently working on incorporating Sora into ChatGPT, though he did not provide a specific timeline for this integration. The version of Sora that may be incorporated into ChatGPT could offer less control than the standalone web application, which allows users to edit and combine clips.

By enabling users to create Sora videos within ChatGPT, OpenAI may be attempting to attract more users to the chatbot platform. This integration might also encourage users to subscribe to ChatGPT’s premium tiers, which could feature higher limits on video generation.

Sahai explained that one of the motivations for launching Sora as a separate web application was to preserve the simplicity of ChatGPT.

Since its debut, OpenAI has enhanced the web experience of Sora, providing more avenues for users to engage with videos generated by the community. Sahai also expressed that OpenAI is enthusiastic about developing a dedicated mobile application for Sora, highlighting the team’s ongoing search for mobile engineers.

Furthermore, OpenAI intends to broaden Sora’s generation capabilities to include images as well.

According to Sahai, OpenAI is in the process of developing an AI image generator driven by Sora, confirming previous speculations about this undertaking. While ChatGPT already features image generation through OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 model, a Sora-based image generator could allow users to produce more photorealistic images.

Sahai also noted that OpenAI is working on a new iteration of Sora Turbo, the model currently utilized in the Sora web application.
