Microsoft has officially launched a macOS application for Copilot, its complimentary generative AI chatbot.
Much like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and various other AI chatbots, Copilot allows users to pose questions and receive AI-generated responses. The tool is designed to assist with a wide array of tasks, including composing emails, summarizing documents, creating cover letters, and beyond. Additionally, it features an image generation tool powered by DALL-E 3.

When Microsoft introduced Copilot two years ago, it was only accessible via Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari web browsers. The rollout for Android, iOS, and iPadOS devices didn’t happen until early 2024. The AI assistant is also integrated into various Microsoft applications, such as Teams and Outlook. However, the newly launched Copilot application provides a tailored experience for Mac users.
A key detail about the macOS app is that it necessitates macOS 14.0 or later and is compatible only with Mac models equipped with an Apple M1 chip or newer. In a similar vein, Apple’s own AI system, Apple Intelligence, requires macOS 15.1 and an M1 chip or later.
In related updates, Microsoft announced earlier this week that all Copilot users now have free and unlimited access to the “Voice” and “Think Deeper” functionalities. The Voice feature aids users in practicing a new language, while Think Deeper, powered by OpenAI’s o1 model, is designed to handle more intricate tasks.
