May Mobility to Introduce Robotaxi Services on Uber’s Platform in Texas This Year

by admin

Startup May Mobility is set to roll out its autonomous vehicles on the Uber platform by late 2025, beginning with operations in Arlington, Texas. This collaboration marks a significant opportunity for May Mobility to extend its services beyond campus shuttles and designated communities, while also enhancing Uber’s portfolio of autonomous vehicle (AV) partnerships as it works towards integrating self-driving technology into its offerings.

This partnership comes at a time when Uber has already begun incorporating Waymo’s robotaxis into its app in cities like Phoenix and Austin, with plans for expansion into Atlanta this summer. This move positions Uber in direct competition with other ride-hailing services, including Lyft and May Mobility, who have recently announced a similar venture aimed at launching autonomous ride-hailing in Atlanta later this year.

Riders in Arlington will soon have the option to choose a May Mobility vehicle when booking rides, featuring the startup’s hybrid Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS vehicles equipped with its proprietary self-driving technology. The initial roll-out will involve human safety operators at the wheel while transitioning to fully driverless operations over time. Following this launch, both Uber and May Mobility aim to extend their services to other U.S. cities in 2026, with ambitious plans to deploy thousands of autonomous vehicles in the upcoming years.

May Mobility specializes in on-demand autonomous microtransit services, effectively operating self-driving shuttles in small, controlled environments. The company has previously conducted pilot programmes in several U.S. locations, including Arlington, Ann Arbor (Michigan), Grand Rapids (Minnesota), Peachtree Corners (Georgia), Miami (Florida), and Sun City (Arizona). This strategic partnership with Uber signals an evolution for May Mobility as it seeks to broaden its operational reach and enhance the accessibility of self-driving transportation solutions across urban landscapes.
