Starting January 31, owners of the electric Lucid Gravity SUV will have the opportunity to utilize Tesla’s Supercharging network.
The Gravity marks Lucid’s second model following its flagship Air sedan series and is the first to come equipped with charging ports that are compatible with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) plugs. Additionally, owners of the Lucid Air will have access to the Tesla Supercharger network through adapters beginning in the second quarter.
In 2023, numerous automakers such as Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Rivian, and Mercedes-Benz revealed intentions to develop future electric vehicle models compatible with Tesla’s charging standard, granting drivers access to the extensive Tesla charging network. Meanwhile, these manufacturers have been supplying EV owners with adapters to facilitate charging at locations featuring Combined Charging Standard (CCS) ports.
Tesla has been gradually opening its charging network to non-Tesla electric vehicles as automakers enhance their EV software and Tesla upgrades its charging stations. This phased approach accounts for the delay between the initial deliveries of the Gravity to employees, friends, and family in early December, and the date when actual owners can start utilizing the chargers.
The luxury electric vehicle manufacturer also announced that it would supply adapters to Gravity owners, enabling them to charge at stations equipped with CCS plugs.
Emad Dlala, Lucid’s Vice President of Powertrain, mentioned in a statement that the company has engineered a new high-performance 926V powertrain that allows the Gravity to charge at rates of up to 400 kW on 1000V charging systems. This powertrain incorporates an advanced cooling system designed for enhanced thermal capacity.
