Lenovo’s New Form Factors Showcase That PCs Can Be Enjoyable Again

Large enterprises are typically not recognized for their willingness to embrace risk, especially in the consumer hardware domain. Annual product iterations usually bring about minor enhancements, such as improved screen resolution or better image quality.

Lenovo, however, is eager to defy this trend by annually presenting exciting updates to its PC lineup. These updates often feature a blend of actual products and conceptual designs—many of which may never reach market—but they serve as a constant reminder that PC manufacturers can indeed think creatively.

During CES 2025, the rollable laptop moved from a mere concept to an actuality. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 is set to launch later this year at a price of $3,500. This innovative device features a display that can mechanically extend up to 16.7 inches. The transition isn’t instant; in fact, it unfolds gradually, taking approximately 10 seconds to fully expand.

The straightforward answer to why this product exists is simply “because it’s cool.” However, on a more practical note, it simplifies transporting a significantly larger display within a compact footprint. This concept parallels that of foldable smartphones.

Several other products presented at CES remain in the conceptual stage but deserve recognition. One such item is a large-screen desktop that employs onboard motion tracking to follow the user, adjusting its height or shifting side to side accordingly. This design is reminiscent of the moving Auto Twist AI PC showcased by the company in September.

Importantly, the system’s case and base are crafted from a blend of bamboo and corn materials, reflecting a commitment to sustainable hardware production. It was exhibited alongside a wireless keyboard that charges solely through the ambient light emitted by the monitor.
