Instagram has launched an innovative feature that enables creators to monetize their influence by endorsing products. On Thursday, Meta unveiled an enhancement to its Partnership Ads program called Testimonials, which allows creators to receive compensation for written endorsements posted as comments on brands’ social media content and advertisements.
This new advertising format aims to capitalize on a trend that is already prevalent across various social media platforms.
Many modern brands utilize paid commenters or incentivize customers to leave favorable reviews. For those researching new products, distinguishing between genuine positive feedback and potentially misleading promotions can be challenging.
Offering a pathway for creators to disclose their status as paid promoters may enhance the perception of the brand among the creator’s audience while also providing greater transparency about the creator-brand relationship. Though these endorsements are clearly compensated rather than organic, creators still have a stake in their reputation, as their recommendations can impact their trustworthiness with followers. Careless endorsements can jeopardize their credibility.

Meta explains that 40% of users now rely on creator recommendations on Instagram when making purchases.
Through Partnership Ads, these recommendations have previously been recognized as branded content marked with a paid partnership tag, along with collab posts where both the creator and brand appear as authors.
The Testimonials feature allows creators to compose brief messages, each under 125 characters, that connect to the respective brand’s campaign or the product being promoted. To activate this, creators submit their written endorsements to the brand, which will then attach them to the appropriate ad.
These testimonials will be highlighted at the top of the comments section on the relevant Instagram post, providing enhanced visibility for both the comments and the creators behind them.
Additionally, creators can monitor these testimonials and other Partnership Ads from their Creator Settings within the app, enabling them to track how their content is being utilized and withdraw their endorsements when necessary.
