Humane Advises Users to Discontinue Use of Charging Case Amid Concerns Over Battery-Related Fires

In a recent statement shared with TechCrunch, Humane confirmed, indicating they are not ready to provide additional details at the moment. “Currently, no further updates can be shared. However, Humane intends to disclose more information following the completion of its ongoing investigation.”

The debut of the Ai Pin didn’t unfold as Humane had envisioned. This week, the startup, which has received considerable funding, faces yet another setback amid a growing list of problems. On Wednesday, Humane sent out an email to its customers advising them to stop using its uniquely shaped charging case.

The precautionary warning comes from Humane following a report of a charging malfunction from one consumer. The decision to issue a caution was made “out of an abundance of caution.” An immediate probe into the matter identified the batteries provided as a likely source of fire danger.

In correspondence obtained by TechCrunch, Humane expressed, “Our findings indicated that our previous battery provider was falling short of our stringent quality criteria, presenting a fire safety hazard with certain batteries they supplied. Consequently, we’ve ceased relations with this supplier as we seek a replacement that aligns with our commitment to quality.”

Further inquiries were made to Humane regarding their plans for a potential complete recall or refund. At present, Humane is appeasing affected customers by offering them two months of its subscription service valued at $24 per month at no cost.

Humane is not the initial tech company to distribute products carrying batteries that could pose risks. Nevertheless, the unveiling of these issues comes at a particularly challenging time, as there have been reports of the company’s founders looking to sell the business just months following the release of its inaugural product.

The company clarified that the Charge Case is presently the solely affected product, with accessories like the Battery Boost and Charging Pad remaining unaffected, as per the company’s communication.
