The platform previously recognized as Twitter, now called X, has introduced an automatic feature where its Grok AI system may learn from user contributions. This feature is set to be on by default. However, it also provides the flexibility to disable it and erase interactions history with the AI.
When activated, X may “leverage your contributions and interactions on X, along with inputs and outcomes related to Grok for its training and enhancement efforts,” as per the details on the platform’s settings page. Furthermore, “this implies your interactions and inputs might also be shared with our service collaborator xAI for these objectives,” X adds.
Disabling this feature through X’s mobile application isn’t an option, yet it is manageable through the desktop interface of the network.
Steps to Disable X’s Data Sharing Preferences:
- Navigate to the Settings page on X from your desktop browser.
- Click on the “Privacy and safety” option.
- Go to “Grok.”
- Deselect the checkbox to turn it off.

Once you’ve disabled these settings, you have the option to wipe your AI conversation logs by selecting the “Delete conversation history” button.
This week, X’s proprietor Elon Musk announced the initiation of Grok, a large-scale language model’s training process, boasting of it being powered by “the most robust AI training cluster globally.” Musk aspires for the AI model to lead globally across all metrics by December 2024, indicating plans to supplement its powerful infrastructure with user data contributions.
X is not alone in its use of user-generated content for AI training, as Meta had previously briefed EU and U.K. members about an upcoming alteration to utilize public posts on Facebook and Instagram for AI development. The plan, however, was put on hold following regulatory pushback.
